Chasing the Moon

January 2023 at Badlands National Park in South Dakota, I was literally chasing the full Wolf moon to capture the right moment at sunset.

Veritable Tranquility

What a pleasure it was this past January to capture this tranquil, panoramic view at South Dakota Badlands National Park. On this particular evening the sunset happened to coincide with the rise of the full Wolf moon!

Wolf Moon

On this icy cold January day just half an hour before sunset, I was all bundled up and had less than five minutes to position my tripod and prepare my camera for a quick single exposure shot of the full Wolf moon as it was rising over the South Dakota Badlands!

On this chilly January day at Badlands National Park in South Dakota I had just shot a photo of the Wolf Moon as it was rising up over the Eastern horizon, I turned to the West just as the sun was setting behind this beautiful panoramic view.

Fall in the Badlands

On this fantastically peaceful Autumn morning, I couldn't help but photograph this trail wrapped around the remains of a yellow mound gently caressed by gorgeous sidelight emanating from the sunrise. I wonder how many people helped carve this path at Badlands National Park in South Dakota.

Badland Blues

Bands of red and yellow appear to have been painted on the Yellow Mounds, they are even more spectacular surrounded by snow on a mid Winter day at Badlands National Park.

Rough and Rugged

The wildlife has adapted well to the rugged and varied terrain of Badlands National Park in South Dakota. It always amuses me when I watch a huge animal such as this one, walking on a narrow trail over a steep incline.

Under the Rainbow

I was over the moon when I found a rainbow after chasing this Summer storm all the way to Badlands National Park.

For me one of the best escapes from the daily chaos of life is exploring Badlands National Park in South Dakota, while everyone else is still asleep that is. This image was captured several minutes before the 5am sunrise.
