Northern Lights with Meteor

Near the South Dakota Black Hills, this image of dancing waves of light was captured during an unforgettable April night under the stars! I do not enhance the colors in my Northern Lights images, they are slightly brightened and sometimes cropped a little. Needless to say, this display of Northern Lights did not disappoint me at all and soon I will write about this adventure in my blog!

Midnight Glow

This is a single exposure, midnight shot of the Milky Way Core over Badlands National Park in South Dakota. The colors in the sky are from airglow or nightglow.

Cool Reflections/Crocodile Head

April 2023 brought several opportunities to view the Northern Lights, however, this is probably the most fantastic display of the Aurora Borealis that I have ever witnessed personally! Moonlit Serenity

On this particular Summer evening at Sylvan Lake in Custer State Park, an incredibly bright half moon illuminated the water and the granite boulders. Such a peaceful and relaxing way to end a warm Summer day!

Luminosity Factor

On this particular April night I watched the Northern Lights for over three hours, if freezing cold feet and the need for sleep had not got the best of me I certainly would have watched until the end of the show! Glamping Dakota Style

Last July I was so happy to have come across these awesome teepees at the Buffalo Ridge campground in Custer that I waited several hours for it to get dark outside, people socializing around a campfire was an added bonus!

Magical Lights

On the night of April 23, 2023 all around South Dakota and our neighboring states, everyone was treated to an hours long display of amazing Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights! Nocturnal Chase

Last Summer caught me by surprise when I found swarms of lightning bugs, also known as fireflies flitting about after dark in the South Dakota Badlands.

During blue hour I snagged this shot of an old homestead shack accentuated by the full Moon shining through a window frame.
